Meet Dennis Kyte Interviewed May 2008

Dennis in his bird room

1, What attracted you to budgerigars
My first experience with birds started when I was 4 we had a tame owl that use to follow me up the garden, later on I had foreign birds, then eventually went onto budgie breeding and showing.

2, How long have you kept budgies
I was 10 years old when I got my first budgies, I had pet budgies then and sold most of them to pet shops, I started showing budgies about 50 years ago. Iin the last 20 years I have been in partnership with Fred Uglo.

3, Do you specialise in any budgies
I used to bred a lot of violets but now I have a mixed variety.

4, Any tips for members both new and old
Start with what you like and try to stay as a beginner for as long as you can. Also if your birds get scaly face a cheaper yet affective treatment I find is liquid paraffin, just use a paint brush and paint it onto their beaks and feet it will not hurt them.

5, What food  and supplements do you give your birds
50/50 budgie
Naked oats
Carrots
Millett when there are babies
Egg food all the time

6, When and how many pairs do you breed a year
I like to start the end of October and breed about 15 pairs

7, What has been your best win to date
The win that has meant the most to me was best beginner judged by Mrs Moss.

8, Do you have a favourite show of the year and why
Redruth Cornwall.

9, Finally about you hobbies or other interests
I have had many hobbies over the years which include Tropical fish, Pigeons, and Rabbits .Now it’s just the dog, cat and budgies
